Photography Icons Explore ‘Youth’ and Rebellion in Limited-Edition Print Sale

NEW YORK — A selection of over 100 signed and estate-stamped photographs, capturing the electric charge of growing up and the spirit of perpetual youth, is set to go on sale online for one week, thanks to Magnum Photos and Aperture. The collection, simply titled Youth, features museum-quality 6″×6″ prints available at an accessible entry price of $110/£110/€120.

The sale is centered on the concept that youth is not merely an age but “a state of becoming, of breaking rules and creating your style in the process.” It draws a line between era-defining icons and contemporary explorations of self-discovery and rebellion.

Highlighting the Masters

The collection boasts an all-star cast of photography masters whose work defined fashion, culture and attitude. Classic images capturing that restless energy include Dennis Stock’s enigmatic portrait of a trench-coated, smoking James Dean, Philippe Halsman’s glamorous image of Brigitte Bardot, and David Clinch’s iconic shot of Bruce Springsteen, channeling working-class cool. The selection also features Werner Bischoff’s intimate portrait of Frida Kahlo in her final months and Bob Gruen‘s legendary shot of the Sex Pistols on a plane.

The photographers themselves curated the selection, ensuring each image, whether documenting a first kiss or a protest, encapsulates the feeling of “a first.”

The Arc of Self-Discovery

Beyond the globally recognized icons, Youth traces the intimate arc of self-discovery and contemporary experience. The collection includes images of fleeting street moments, protests, and private revelations, reminding viewers that style and attitude begin where rules end.

The list of contributors is extensive, featuring major names in both documentary and fine art photography, including: Wendy Red Star, Steve McCurry, Joel Meyerowitz, Susan Meiselas, Olivia Arthur, Raymond Depardon, Alec Soth and many more. Images such as Soth’s lone dancer and Olivia Arthur’s child on the cusp of change capture the spirit of youth regardless of the subject’s age.
